Nobel Lecture Chemistry 2017
14 december, 2017, 17:30 - 18:30
Public lecture by
Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry 2017
Jacques Dubochet
University of Lausanne, Switzerland
Title: “The science that gave me a Nobel Prize and the science that didn’t”
Time: 17:30
Place: Kårhusets Aula (Auditorium)
Abstract:
Honorary Professor Jacques Dubochet has, together with Joachim Frank and Richard Henderson, been awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2017 “for developing cryo-electron microscopy for the high-resolution structure determination of biomolecules in solution”.
By rapidly cooling water, vitrifying the water instead of crystalizing it, Dubochet opened up for the possibilities of studying aqueous systems (including biological material such as membranes, proteins, and other biomolecules) using cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM).
Take this opportunity and come and listen to Dubochets telling about his discovery that awarded him the Nobel Prize as well as other discoveries that didn’t.
Welcome!
