SUMMARY:1st Swedish Medicinal Chemistry Symposium 2017
DESCRIPTION:Discovering molecules able to cure disease is a major challenge for medicinal chemists and the drug discovery scientists in both academia and industry. Small molecule drug discovery has for the last decades delivered highly valuable drugs that helps improve lives of millions of patients. During the last decade there has been exciting developments in new approaches to identify\, characterize and develop new compounds. There has also been an accelerating interest in drug discovery based on alternative modalities including macrocycles\, peptides\, and nucleotides. \nWe hereby invite you to participate in the 1st Swedish Medicinal Chemistry Symposium organized by the Swedish Pharmaceutical Society. The two-day meeting will focus on recent advances in Swedish drug discovery research with contributions from both academia and industry. The meeting also provides an excellent opportunity for networking. \nAt the Symposium\, the 2017 Medicinal Chemistry prizewinner will be presented. The prize has been awarded since 1993\, by the Medicinal Chemistry section of the Swedish Pharmaceutical Society\, to a person(s) who has made significant contributions within the area of Medicinal Chemistry in Sweden. SUMMARY:Course: Bubble and Foam Chemistry
DESCRIPTION:This 2-day course provides a straightforward introduction to the principles and properties of foams and foaming surfactants. It discusses the key ideas that underpin why foaming occurs\, how it can be avoided and how different degrees of antifoaming can be achieved\, and covers the latest test methods\, including laboratory and industrial developed techniques. Combining academic and industrial viewpoints and detailing a variety of different kinds of foams\, from wet detergents and food foams\, to polymeric\, material and metal foams\, it connects theory to real-world applications and recent developments in foam research. \nWho is this course intended for? \nThe course is intended for industrialists\, researchers and students with an interest in foam systems\, regardless of the specific application or area of technology and research. \nLecturer\nRobert J Pugh\, Visiting Professor at Nottingham Trent University. He is an active member of the foams community and has almost twenty years’ experience in industry\, having worked as a foam specialist for Dow Chemicals and Unilever Research. He has also acted as a consultant for Argus Fire\, Akzo Nobel\, Nestlé\, GlaxoSmithKline\, Procter and Gamble\, and Arizona Chemicals. He has edited two previous books in the field of surface and colloid science\, and authored several highly cited review papers on the topic of foams and foaming.

SUMMARY:Powder Technology in Pharma\, Food and Chemistry
DESCRIPTION:I September erbjuder Lund University Commissioned Education en intensiv tredagarskurs inom pulverteknik för yrkesverksamma och doktorander. I dagsläget finns det en stor mängd pulver som används inom kemi-\, livsmedels- och läkemedelsindustrin. Kursen ges av lärare vid LTH och externa föreläsare i samarbete med Lund University Commissioned Education. Det finns en mängd olika pulver som används inom kemi\, läkemedels- och livsmedelsindustrin. Behandling och hantering av pulver innebär också en rad olika steg såsom produktion av pulver\, kontroll av storleken och typen av partiklar\, transport\, lagring\, återupplösning\, pulverblandning\, etc. För att kunna utföra dessa operationer på ett så optimalt sätt som möjligt krävs förståelse för pulvrets egenskaper. Syftet med kursen är att ge deltagarna en bättre förståelse samt verktyg som stimulerar nya idéer om hur man kan utveckla och förbättra pulverprodukter och processer. Vid slutförandet av kursen ska alla deltagare ha en god\, grundläggande förståelse för den moderna pulverteknologin. \nKursen ges på engelska.

SUMMARY:TrainMIC A Master Class For those who train staff from accredited laboratories
DESCRIPTION:Testing laboratories in the area of chemical and bioanalytical measurements commonly require ISO/IEC17025 accreditation. This calls for continuoustraining of staff\, often done via internal training. The quality of such training varies considerably. Moreover\, very often assessors raise nonconformities regarding training. The aim of this Master Class is to enhance practices in delivery of such training in this specific domain.

SUMMARY:The Future of Formulation Development - Using Synchrotron Light
DESCRIPTION:I slutet av September erbjuder Lunds Universitet en intensiv tvådagarskurs som hållas på MAX IV samt Lunds Universitet. Synkrotronstrålning har använts i de senaste decennierna för att studera formuleringar som tillverkats av läkemedels-\, kosmetika- och livsmedelsindustrin. Användandet av synkrotronstrålning har möjliggjort karaktäriseringen av flytande och fasta formuleringar genom att visa fingeravtryck för komponenterna. Kursen handlar om att visa hur industriella intressen är kopplade till förståelsen av formulering och karaktärisering samt hur synkrotronstrålning kan användas för att utföra experiment. Därmed kommer närvaron av den senaste generationens anläggningar för synkrotronstrålning såsom MAX IV (Lund\, Sverige) definitivt hjälpa forskningen inom formuleringsteknik bortom dagens begränsningar. \nKursen ges på engelska.
