SUMMARY:European Conference on Spectroscopy of Biological Molecules
DESCRIPTION:Since its inaugural meeting in 1985 in Reims\, France\, the European Conference on Spectroscopy of Biological Molecules (ECSBM) has been held every two years in a different European country. \nECSBM is recognised as a leading international conference at which applications of biomolecular spectroscopy in fundamental scientific research\, medical and clinical sciences\, and the pharmaceutical industries are explored. The scope of the scientific topics covered has recently extended to applications in the fields of biomedical imaging\, anticancer research\, drug delivery and nano-biotechnology and the meeting in Dublin will consider the impact for food science and nutrition. \nTo date\, conference attendance has drawn researchers not only from all countries of Europe\, but also from North Africa\, Israel and Middle Eastern countries\, India\, Japan and Australia\, United States\, Middle and South America\, and we hope to continue this in Dublin. \nConference themes: Application of spectroscopic (including Raman\, IR\, UV-Vis\, fluorescence\, NMR\, EPR) & imaging techniques to the study of biomolecules\, cells\, or tissues\, Drug discovery\, Medical spectroscopic imaging\, Diagnosis of disease Imaging\, Spectroscopy in Food and Nutrition\, Structural and Mechanistic Studies of Proteins\, Nucleic acids\, Enzymes & membranes\, Nanoparticles for biomolecular studies\, Nano-biotechnology\, Anticancer research\, Electron and Energy Transfer in Biomolecules and Emerging Techniques.

SUMMARY:PhD Summer School – Nanotools at Biomembranes
DESCRIPTION:After this course the students will acquire both theoretical and experimental knowledge in a set of state-of-the-art surface sensitive techniques that enable following biomolecular interactions at model cellular membranes. \nThis course is composed of 3 moments: \n1. Online lectures to provide the theoretical background available from August the 5th\, 2019. \n2. One week experimental work in our modern research labs (19-23 August 2019). \n3. Online report submission by September the 6th 2019. \nIntended Learning Outcomes \nAt the end of this course the student should be able to: \n1. Describe a set of models for biomembranes. \n2. Describe the principles of a set of nanotools with focus on AFM\, QCM-D\, ellipsometry and Neutron Reflection. \n3. Relate biomembrane models to a given experimental technique. \n4. Apply a set of nanotools and nanomodels to unravel biomolecular interactions at membranes. \n5. Reflect on the choices made and the results obtained.
