Fresh insights and inspiration will bring changes to both the theoretical and practical aspects of my teaching.

On Monday and Tuesday, September 23-24, 120 chemistry teachers from the Nordic countries gathered in Stockholm for the Nordic Chemistry Learning Conference (NCL2024).
The theme of the conference was “Chemistry Education in a Changing World.”

The first day took place at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (KVA), where the Nobel Prizes in Chemistry, Physics, and Economics are awarded. The day featured inspirational talks and discussions, concluding with a conference dinner at the restaurant Lappis, Stockholm University.

One of the speakers was Peter Brzezinski, Professor of Biochemistry at Stockholm University and Secretary of the Nobel Committee for Chemistry, KVA. He provided insight into the extensive work behind the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

We are now planning to compare the salinity levels in the water from Umeå and Luleå.

Day 2 consisted of practical and theoretical workshops covering a variety of topics, including explosives in school chemistry, analytical chemistry and the VASA ship, seawater analysis, and the use of ChatGPT in chemistry education.

It is highly valuable to speak about chemistry and chemistry education with colleagues from the Nordics!

“I think that the variety of topics at the meeting is very good”, says Mette Malmqvist, Sønderborg Statsskole, Denmark (left). Berit Eilin Ørjasæter, Hvam Upper Secondary School, Norway, and Tora Cathrine Vestvold, Hvam videregående skole, Norway, both think that it was highly valuable to get the opportunity to speak to colleagues from other Nordic countries. Good mix between lectures, workshops and time to talk to each other between the sessions.
