Föredrag av Rebecca Gonzalez Suarez. Docent, Ångströmlaboratoriet, Uppsala universitet
Titel: Modern partikelfysik med det senaste från LHC vid CERN.
Abstrakt: The Latest from Particle Physics: Where We Stand and What Comes Next.
Particle physics studies the smallest components of matter and their interaction. Its biggest recent breakthrough was the discovery of the Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in 2012. After 16 years of operations, most of them as the only accelerator of its kind, the LHC is preparing for a long shutdown to upgrade for the coming decades of collisions. What has happened at the LHC since the Higgs discovery? What are the plans for its next stage? And most importantly: what is the plan for the field in the long term? With machines that take decades to plan and build, the future of particle physics is being decided today.
This talk will address these questions and provide an overview of the current status and future prospects of particle physics.
