Leif Hammarström receives the 2026 Porter Medal in Photochemistry

Leif Hammarström is awarded the 2026 Porter Medal for outstanding contributions to photochemistry.

The European Photochemistry Association (EPA) has announced that the 2026 Porter Medal will be awarded to Leif Hammarström, Professor of Chemical Physics at Uppsala University and Head of the Division of Physical Chemistry of the Swedish Chemical Society (Kemisamfundet). Leif Hammarström is internationally renowned for his pioneering work in photochemistry, electron-transfer dynamics, artificial photosynthesis, and solar energy conversion. He receives the prize in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the field of photochemistry.

The Porter Medal

Named in honor of Nobel Prize-winning chemist George Porter, the Porter Medal is among the most prestigious international awards in photochemistry. The award is presented to scientists whose research has significantly contributed to the field of photochemistry. The medal is jointly presented by the EPA, the Inter-American Photochemistry Society, and the Asian and Oceanian Photochemistry Association.
